Eric Toppen, OD, joined Northwest Eye Surgeons in May 2026. He grew up outside of Chicago, IL, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school before earning his undergraduate degree in Biology at Northeastern Illinois University and his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry.
On his time off, Dr. Toppen enjoys outdoor activities including fishing, kayaking, and hiking.
“I enjoy working with patients, listening to and understanding who they are and what concerns they have with their eyes. Once the patient feels comfortable and confident in their understanding, then we will start to develop a plan that fits their needs and lifestyle.”

Previous Experience
Dr. Toppen has practiced in diverse clinical settings, including a large private practice in Chicago, the Tennessee Valley Health Care System VA hospital in Nashville, and as the owner of his own private practice in Denver. These experiences, along with his unique path to becoming an optometrist, have provided him with broad clinical exposure and a strong understanding of patients’ day-to-day visual needs.
