Brenda A. Myers-Powell, MD PhD
“I’m privileged to use my talents to improve the health and well-being of my community; the reward for physician and patient has been invaluable. I’ve proudly devoted my career to healing and vision preservation by advancing care of the back of the eye.”

Brenda Myers-Powell, M.D. Ph.D., a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist, blends academia and private practice to enhance her expertise in the subspecialties of vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis (ocular inflammation) and joined NWES in 2008.

She had an early start in clinical research as a Junior Fellow at the prestigious National Institutes of Health while attending The Johns Hopkins University for her Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Her appointment to the Medical Scientist Training Program at renowned Washington University School of Medicine led to a love for retinal disease management. She finished her MD PhD studies and pursued her ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas at Houston’s Hermann Eye Center. Following completion of her first fellowship in medical retina and uveitis at the esteemed National Eye Institute, she took a position at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center where she was quickly promoted to Section Chief of Ophthalmology. She later accepted a preceptorship and associate position in a busy northwest retina practice. While practicing vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis full-time, she also supervised a Uveitis Service for the University of Washington as well as a Retina / Uveitis Service at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center.

Dr. Myers-Powell has numerous publications to her credit. She continues to participate in academic endeavors such as teaching, clinical trials, and consulting but her true love remains patient care. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.

Dr. Myers-Powell and her son, Brendan, return to the Pacific Northwest with enthusiasm. They enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, boating, and golfing. She particularly enjoys reading and spending fun-time with her son.

Dr. Myers-Powell practices at Northwest Eye Surgeons in Seattle and Renton.
